Water Painting

Belle likes using benches and stools to reach things she wants, which makes child-proofing move up a level! The other day, she found some paint brushes and wanted to paint. I don't think she has actually ever painted before, but I didn't want to hold her back. I also didn't want the kind of mess that a 2 1/2 year old could create with paint.

I got a brilliant idea. I asked her if she wanted to paint with water. She liked the idea and spent a long time dipping her brush in water and painting with it on her paper. It was mostly mess-free and cost almost nothing as well! She loved it and I'm sure will do it again.

At some point she'll figure out that her big brother uses colors and want to join in, but maybe by then, she'll have figured out that she can only paint on paper.

We do this in the summer out on the sidewalk, no paper needed. The kids love it! I'll have to try it with paper in the wintertime.

We do it on the sidewalk at summer, too. I hadn't thought of trying it on paper. It would work especially well on brown paper I imagine. Thanks for the idea.

My three year old would love this ... and I would love it because there is no mess!

We haven't tried painting yet, but Elora has a coloring box. Whenever we receive a package in a box, it becomes her new box. She can draw on the box with pencil, pen, or markers, and if she's drawing on a paper she has to do it on top of her box, in case the coloring gets off the paper surface. Its worked really well for more than a year now, and so far she doesn't draw on walls or anything else.
