Aaron and I are going to start running together tomorrow! I'm really excited! I started walking last week, but it will be so fun to do this as a couple! It'll be nice to spend the time together (which we rarely get, especially without kids around) and it will be great to motivate each other to be healthy. It will make it so much better since we both want it!
I need to get some shoes that will be better for my feet, but the super padded ones that the shoe companies have convinced us to wear will have to do for now...

Just a Mom
I'm not saying this like I'm merely a mom, but this week I got to mostly be only a mom. I didn't have to work very much and I got to be at home with my kids. It was nice. I actually don't work away from home very much, but I'm still not used to it, so a week where I got to catch up and feel like a mom again has been really nice! I hope I did enough to not hate my house on Tuesday because I start back strong on Monday, but I'm grateful for the time I get to spend at home!

Ten Years
It's hard to believe it's been ten years since we got married for time and all eternity! It's also hard to remember what it was like to not be married. I have been truly blessed to have found Aaron! He is an amazing husband and father! He's also my best friend.
We have been through a lot and have learned from each other and the Lord to be stronger and more able to take on challenges together!
I'm so glad to be happily married after ten years!

Playing With My Head
So, I was sitting at the computer the other day and the mouse started acting really weird. It's fairly new, so I was annoyed that the scroll function on it had broken so soon. (That's what went wrong with the last one.) Then, I was trying to do other things and I couldn't. I didn't know what was going on.
Then I remembered that Captain Marvelous had a remote mouse. (which is the coolest thing) I didn't even have to ask. I knew it was him. It actually took me a little while to realize the whole problem was him. It was kind of spread out!
I knew I married him for a reason. When I am senile in my old age, (or youth if he keeps this up) I have someone to blame!

"Man Skills"
When you get to church activity and see the parking lot marked off with caution tape and several of these around the edges, you know you are in for a great time!
Our new ward (congregation) has what they call "Man Skills" for the men. They thought that since the women learn things that they want to, the men should have the same opportunity. So, every month, they have an activity to learn or have fun. This month it was more fun than learning. They were each given a wedge of pine, some wheels, hubs (and whatever else you need to make a car roll) and brief instructions. They didn't have any limits other than if they added extra holes for the explosives, they'd have to bring their own.
We didn't have a lot of time, last week, so My Man just put the wheels on with epoxy and covered the thing with duct tape! It was cool! It actually did quite well, even compared to the ones that had been done up quite fancily!
It was a fun activity, but Belle didn't like it at all. For a while, she wasn't paying attention, and so I picked her up and had her watch one of the races. She was startled by the sound and then, the next one made her cry. It was all over by then, I had to take her to the van (wisely parked on the other side of the building!) so she wouldn't be scared.
This picture was actually taken before the event! She looked pretty concerned. I guess she had reason to be. A few of the cars even flew!
Here is a video of ours racing. You can't tell very well, but in the end it rolls. It was pretty cool!

Aaaaaahhh!!!
So, I think I may have solved a little of my stress issues!
I have been taking care of a friend's 9 month old, my SIL's dog and my own darlings. It was really hard at first, but then I thought I had it under control.
That was until I wigged out on Aaron. He totally didn't deserve it and I owe him some big and fancy dinner or something to make up for it.
The night before last, I had had my fill of being mauled by children and dogs and I was completely stressed out. It carried over to yesterday and I blew up at Aaron. He has been working so hard at teaching, trying to finish his masters' degree and being a great husband and father, that he didn't deserve the added stress I gave him.
Anyway, I think a lot of what it comes down to is hormones and not getting chances to calm down and de-stress throughout the day. (Also, my current crochet project has been frustrating me. Crochet is a great de-stressor for me, so that just made things worse.)
Anyway, lately, I try to relax while the two little ones sleep and Luke has some video game time. The dogs have been wrestling, growling and barking like crazy!! I get so frustrated with them and I yell to try to make them stop and not wake up the kids.
But, the good news is that Daisy will be here in the mornings rather than the afternoons, so I can have some peace and quiet during the day!! I think I can be a much better wife and mommy, now!!
Note: I am usually not a stressed out person. I let most things roll off my back or sleep them off and I am great and relaxed again in the morning. Therefore, I don't think I handle stress very well since I've not really had to very often...

Poor Freckles
My dog, Freckles, has an ear infection. She has scratched it for a while, but we didn't realize it until she started whimpering when she did. She'd whimper and then lick her paw, so we thought it was her paw. I checked it and didn't find a problem. We didn't see anything on her head and then the other night, my SIL looked in her ear and it was rough and goopy. We were able to get her in at the vet's office, yesterday. She got her shots and we also got antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory to take care of her ear. I hope she feels better soon.

Aquarium Visit!
While we were nearby (though it took us another 1/2 hour to find it) we went to the aquarium!
The first area we walked through was all about the fish and other aquatic animals of Utah and how to help keep them alive. There was a lot about conservation of the water.
They had a really cool boat video set up. The kids could feel like they were driving a boat and learn all about several different parts of the Great Salt Lake! Luke thought it was really neat!
Then, we went through the ocean area. It started with jelly fish. (I know this pic is blurry, but it makes them look kind of ghostly and I thought it was a neat effect.)
There were also jelly fish that were mostly clear, and turned different colors when a light was shined on them. It was weird!
There was also an octopus, but that was when I saw the sign about no flash photography and my camera wasn't doing well without it.
Toward the end of the ocean exhibit, there was an area where you could touch stingrays, sea cucumbers, horseshoe crabs and various other creatures. It was really neat, although stingrays feel really gross!! They are soft, spongy and slimy! Ewww! We even got Belle to touch it, but she didn't like it. It was really neat the way the stingrays would come right up to the edge and kind of wave their fins. They seemed to want to be touched!
There were lots of rocks and fake coral for the kids to play in! They had a blast. The rocks had aquariums in them, so it was like the kids were playing under the ocean!
There was also a "ship wreck" that had games and puzzles and a large aquarium.
Belle especially loved that tank.
There was also a shark tank, and one of them would come right past us over and over again!
It was a blast!! And, it was nicer than being out in the sun at the zoo!!

Bear Lake Adventure
We got back, yesterday from a family reunion at Bear Lake. It was a lot of fun and really nice to just slow down and relax. It is nice to not have to do so much and to not feel guilty for the things you aren't doing at home!
A member of Aaron's extended family owns some property on Bear Lake. It isn't improved much--there is a toilet, shower (cold), sink and electricity. There are a few picnic tables, but you pretty much have to bring everything yourself.
We spent most of the time sitting and talking to family, reading, crocheting, playing and swimming. It was nice and we didn't get horrible sunburns. I do have a weirdly shaped sunburn on my back. It looks like a big "X". I guess the sunscreen didn't get right next to my swim suit.
Luke got to go on his first boat ride!!
Aaron and Luke built me my own, private island!! They dug a channel so that the water would surround a part of the sand. It was pretty cool. Now all I need is a cabin on it and some servants!

Aaron went for a bike ride a couple of times and when he did, Freckles sat and looked for him to come back and whined.
Freckles also learned how to swim this trip! She was scared at first, but once she did it, she was fine and loved it!
Belle had a blast putting mud and water into a bucket. She did that for a long time!
Belle also spent a lot of her time at the water spigot. It was so funny--most times that I lost sight of her, we'd find her over there, playing with the water. This was a very watery vacation for her!
Luke got his training wheels off at Bear Lake!! He was really excited. He still needs a lot of help riding, but we thought a place with lots of open space that was softer than pavement would be a great place to start!
Now we just have to clean up from the mess it all caused! It was worth it, though!

I felt like a bag-lady, today...
So, we took our van in to get a recalled part replaced on it and to get an oil change, at 8:30 this morning. We were told that it would only take about 15-20 minutes for the part and we guessed about the same for the oil. So, we stayed. We called my SIL to see if she was in town, but she wasn't. My MIL was willing to drive the 45 minutes to come get us, but we didn't think it was worth it to have her drive up, only to be done before she got there.
Well, it was worth the time. It was 11:40 am, when they called to say our van was ready!! In the meantime, we walked across the street to the only store close by. They only sold socks, so that didn't hold our interests for long. By this time, we were just going to wait for my SIL to come and we were going to go get something to eat...at the gas station. We hadn't eaten breakfast before we left and were planning to run to Wal-Mart for the eggs and milk we were lacking at home.
So, while we were walking the 4 blocks to the gas station, my MIL decided she was going to come help. We got some snacks (Skittles are a healthy breakfast, right??) and waited outside for our ride. I felt like a homeless person with my kids and I eating "breakfast" out by the sign.
We got home, we got exercise and we learned that we can't trust a repair shop to be timely...
On the up side, they seemed really honest! Our van has started to skip and she said we should test to see if the problem is the quality of gas, first. (The other things she said it could be are cheap as well...) We did learn that eventually we need to have about $550 worth of work done, but that is for the future...
I was so glad to have my mei tai with me!! Belle was SO much easier to carry and contain, that way!

Good Reading Habits
Our local library has a summer reading program again this year. If we read for 20 minutes per day, the kids can each get a free book after two weeks. They have really gotten into it and it has been pretty easy now that we are in the habit. I don't have to remember--they remember for us. They love to have books read to them. I think they'd listen until our voices gave out!! It is so nice to have them love books so much. Aaron and I are such book-lovers that we love that our children are following this habit.
Aaron and I have also been reading a lot this summer. We've both been reading young adult fiction by David Lubar and Neal Shusterman. They are both great authors and have written really interesting novels. I've read Dunk, Flip, Hidden Talents & True Talents by Lubar. Right now, I am reading Everlost by Shusterman.
Flip and True Talents are probably my favorites out of these, so far! You should check them out. As a warning: they are mostly free of language, but there is some violence.

Triumph and Trauma
Okay, so this is going to be a post full of variety. I have a lot to catch up on!
First, Aaron got the history job at his school!! We are so excited! He has been teaching special education. He loves teaching and loves the kids, but the paper work, meetings and incidents are just too much hassle and stress. So, we are really glad to know what is going on. I hate not knowing what it going to happen. It is so much easier to know where we are going to be and even better to be able to be the ones to make the decisions, now. We can decide when and where to move rather than having to wait for someone else to decided if he can have the job. We will probably stay where we are for another year and then, sell our townhouse and move closer to work! It is such a relief! We are both excited to get him ready for teaching this. We are going to make costumes and find recipes to enhance his class! It should be a fun summer!!
Second, Luke's birthday went well. We had dinner outside and that was fun, except for the wind that kept the candles from staying lit. We had to take the cake inside to let him blow out the candles!
We had a pinata and the kids had fun hitting it. It finally had to be hit, knocked down and beaten on the ground by Luke's aunt who's birthday is also coming up!
Here is a cute picture of Luke playing with some of his loot. There wasn't any candy because his cousins aren't allowed! :(
He made out pretty well! He got cool men to play with(Stormtrooper and Bionicle), a board game, Play-doh, a bat and ball, a book with read-along CD, toy armor, and a bike!!
Sunday night was finished with a birthday dance! Luke and Belle needed a bath after playing all evening with their cousins. I got them clean and Belle dressed for bed. Luke got his underwear on and then stood on my bed, looking in the mirror on the dresser chanting, "I'm five!! I'm five!! I'm five!!" It was so cute. He was dancing, doing karate moves, and posing with pretend guns!! It was a lot of fun to watch. Belle eventually joined in, too! I would have gotten pictures and video, but I thought it was a bad idea, since he was only wearing underwear!!
Third, I had a great Mother's Day!! I have been a mom for 5 years and it has been a great time!! I love it!! I got a couch!! We have been using a futon for a while, now and it was time to get rid of it. We went to DI (thrift store) to see if they had anything we liked. We found one in pretty good shape. It has some tears and we need to clean it, but I think we can use it for a while!! It is really comfy, too! I also got a book and candy from my MIL. She said it was to escape! Cute! The book is The Peacemaker. It is about how Christ's atonement works in our lives. I like it so far!
And, finally, the trauma!! Yesterday, after Belle got up from her nap, she was outside and she tripped and fell onto the concrete sidewalk! She broke her fingernail off, I think the whole thing will fall off soon! It was so sad. After I got it cleaned up, she just wanted to sit on my lap and watch a movie. Now, she won't leave a bandage on. I think I'll just have to clean it often and see how that goes. She bumps it once in a while and then she wants it wrapped. I don't know what to do about it. I hope a new nail grows back well!! Poor thing!
Update: Belle's nail fell off, but I have been able to look at it better, and there is still some at the base, so I think she'll have no trouble with a new one growing back in. She is still bumping it, but we have been able to keep it quite clean considering she still doesn't really want a bandage on it.

Cutting Back on TV
The TV has been on entirely too much in our home! I rarely watch anything other than what the kids watch, but they watch quite a bit! They don't usually spend the entire time just staring at the screen, they are usually playing at the same time, but the TV is still on most of the day. The kids need to use their imaginations and play without the TV in the background. It has really started to bother me. So, yesterday I decided that we'd spend a lot of the day with the TV off. I tried to have the TV off for twice as long as it was on, but that got to be tough at times. It was a really nice day, though. I read a lot more to them, we played outside more and Belle got a longer nap, since we were outside and it was quiet. There seemed to be so many more hours in the day. It didn't go by so fast. There just seemed to be enough time to spend with my kids, yesterday!!! At the same time, I don't want to remove the TV completely, because we all enjoy it and I think there is good to come from it, but I want to cut back on how much it is on. There are great things for the kids to learn on TV, and it is really nice to have when I need to get things done. I also don't want to give up my shows. I am addicted to Lost!!! (I can't wait for the new episode, tonight!!) So, I am trying to see what works best for my family. What have you done?

Baby Talk
Aaron and I were talking last night about wanting another child. Okay, so I was upset about the lack of another pregnancy and he was making jokes to help me feel better. We have already agreed that we are ready for another baby, unless we talk about it at bedtime or when someone has been screaming for an hour, then we aren't so sure. Anyway, back to the story...
And he said (well something close to this anyway) "Well, from the experience I have had living on this earth that Heavenly Father created (and I've had about 30 years experience), babies come at the most inconvenient time possible." So, Aaron asked if I were to get pregnant at the next chance, when the baby would be born. I told him January. He thought that between that being right in the thick of RSV season, right after Christmas, when tuition is due and right before we have to reregister the car...that would be perfectly inconvenient. And he said (well something close to this anyway) "Well, from the experience I have had living on this earth that Heavenly Father created (and I've had about 30 years experience), babies come at the most inconvenient time possible." So, Aaron asked if I were to get pregnant at the next chance, when the baby would be born. I told him January. He thought that between that being right in the thick of RSV season, right after Christmas, when tuition is due and right before we have to reregister the car...that would be perfectly inconvenient. Big Weekend
Belle was sick last night, so I may have to postpone some of this post for later. She is happily watching Curious George, for now. Aaron had Spring Break Thursday through Monday and we had a great time! We went all over town to see what would be the best thing to do for his birthday. He wanted to either get his old bike fixed, or find a new one. After lots of research and LOTS of shopping around, we found the bike for him. He is really excited and has already taken the kids for a ride with him.
Then, there was Easter! We had a really nice time. We talked about the sacrifice Christ made for us and about his resurrection. We've already talked about resurrection with Luke since he was so worried about death. He is such a good little boy. Then, we went to my niece's baby blessing. We give our children a name and a blessing when they are young, in our church. I was able to give them the blanket!!!
I need to report that I have already finished two of my unfinished projects!!! Hoorah!!

So, there you have it! It was a great weekend. I always like it when Aaron is home with us. It is really nice to have him around and he helps with chores a lot as well!! He cleaned the bathroom, vacuumed and went through a lot of clutter!!! Thanks, Aaron!!!

From the Past
I have become the family keeper of the pictures. My parents gave me the family pictures since they have become RVers. It is nice to have so many memories (maybe in my case reminders, since I don't really have a memory). ;) I was excited to find some of the pictures of my some of my grandparents and great grandparents. I need to scan them for posterity as well as to put on here. Luke sat with me as I organized some of them. He kept asking who everyone was. He was especially interested in the pictures of me and my little brother, playing in mud. There was one where it was obvious that I had eaten some! He kept asking why I had eaten mud and didn't I know that was gross? It was really cute.
This has gotten me interested in family history and genealogy again. I was really into researching and finding people and places, then linking them to me. I have gotten out of the habit of doing that. I need to get back to that. There are so many resources!

Almost Done!!!
I have been working on this double-sided blanket for a long time. I can't even remember when I started it. It must have been just after Christmas... Anyway, I am almost finished. I want to give it to my niece on Sunday. She is getting her name and blessing on Easter. It is a perfect time to give her a gift. I just HAVE to get it done!!
It looks done in the picture, eh?
It is actually quite easy, just time consuming. I found the pattern here. I saw a woman working on one at storytime and I searched for a long time before I found the right one. I really love the pattern and I am trying to decide if I want to do another for a friend who's baby is due in August. That's enough time, right??

7 Years Today
Today is our 7th anniversary!! It is pretty handy to be married in the year 2000. You don't really have to worry about figuring out the number of years you've been married...if you have trouble with that sort of thing.
This is one of our engagement pictures. This is my favorite picture of us together.
Anyway, I thought I'd share the story of how I met my husband, today. I was in Florida and my sister had been in a car accident. She needed help with housework and she needed company. So, I left home and went to stay with her for a while. She had gotten into making a lot of friends online, on an instant message system. She taught me how to use it and I started talking to people. Well, I had put in my profile my age and that I was LDS. Anyway, one day I was online and I got an instant message that just said "Hello" (I think). I said "Who are you?" or something equally rude. Amazingly, we kept talking. Aaron was in Utah and his sister had been making new friends online. She helped him learn the system and when he did a search for a female who was LDS and between the ages of 18 & 25, he found me! Thanks to the Internet and our sisters, we met!
Well, we kept chatting online and eventually called each other on the phone. We sent videos to each other to show our lives and that was fun.
So, we met online at the end of May 1999. At the end of September 1999, I flew out to Utah to meet Aaron. There was a big debate about who would come with me. I was going to take a big burly cousin or my dad (also big and burly), but I eventually talked everyone into letting me go alone. After all, we were meeting in the airport. I think there are probably still friends worried that one day I'll end up dead in the desert... But, I am just fine. Back to the story: We met at the airport and all the way to his parents' house, we couldn't stop laughing. I think that it was just too weird to be together. We knew each other better than most people who had known each other for four months. All we had was talking, so we talked a lot. We knew a lot about each other! We got engaged while I was out here and I went back home a few days after coming. Aaron flew out to meet my family in November and I moved out to Utah in mid-December. We wanted to get married over Christmas break, but his mom talked us into waiting. I'm glad she did, because it would have been really weird. We still needed to get to know each other in person and get used to being around each other before we got married.
Well, the first part of March 2000, we flew back to Florida and had a pre-honeymoon at Disney World. Then, on March 14, 2000, we got married in the Orlando Florida LDS Temple!!! We flew back to Utah and went on our honeymoon to southern Utah and Zion National Park!
It has been a wonderful 7 years! We have gone through some really challenging experiences, but we did it together and have grown closer with them. We have had some really wonderful experiences. We have two beautiful children! We have such a great relationship. We talk a lot. We spend all the time we can together! I love Aaron so much! I am so thankful to have him in my life. I don't know where I'd be without him!

The funny thing about us meeting on the Internet is that neither of us had really been online like that before and we aren't really stuck on the Internet, now. We have lives and interests outside of online. Many times, the image of people who meet online is that they are pretty much online all the time. It was just where we needed to meet to find each other. I sometimes wonder what would have happened had we met in person first...
