I love Luke's kindergarten teacher. She is so great with the kids and does a wonderful job! I help in class one day a week, so I get to see some of this first hand. Luke has learned so much and loves school!
On Tuesday, he came home with this drawing:
It says, "I have a dream that people will share everything."
This got us into a discussion about Martin Luther King, Jr. We asked Luke what he knew about him. He had learned quite a bit. We were able to talk about intolerance and how it was really ridiculous for there to be differences in law and customs due to the color of a person's skin. It was really neat to get to talk to him about this!

Wow! You were up early this morning! My oldest is getting to the age where we can talk about stuff like that and she 'gets it'. She gets it and is upset at the unfairness that it shows. It's fun to share that and know that the thought of treating people differently because of their race or skin color or religion is a concept almost beyond her grasp- and feel good about the values I've instilled. (Yes, totally patting myself on the back with that one).
yay! I feel this way too, about schools. My moms a teacher, my husband is going to be one, and I was best friends with about half of mine (K, I'm a teachers pet.) I'm glad to hear someone else with the same sentiment.
We are starting dialogue about this with our kiddo too. It's so important! I blogged about education and homeschool v. public school today too.
Wow, what a great post...and a little guy who REALLY gets it. How neat to have that discussion with him!
