Luke is Getting Too Old!

I think Luke is adequately ready and excited to go to kindergarten. The problem is, he is my first and I don't think I am ready to let him out in the world. Does he know enough? Will he be bold enough? (He tends to be shy in new situations.) Will he make friends? Will he like his teacher? Will he do well?

My brain tells me he'll do well, but my heart isn't sure. I just want to be there.

He is a very creative and smart boy. I hope that comes out to his teacher and that he doesn't get picked on.

I just hope I don't cry when he goes that first day!

What did you do to cope with letting go?

As a kindergarten teacher in a public elementary school and a parent myself (my son was in kindergarten last year), I wanted to let you know that you are not the only one with these feelings. I see this every year on the first days of school - moms (and dads) worried for one reason or another (or many reasons). I was the same way with my son last year and he was in a classroom only one door down from mine. I almost cried, but was able to keep it together for my students! :) Your son will be fine - act (even if you don't feel it) enthusiastic about him starting school. Reassure him that everything will be fine, and it will be. He will make friends, his teacher (I'm sure) will be understanding and sensitive to his needs! Sometimes that first day is harder on moms and dads than it is the kindergarteners! Let me know how it goes!!
