Webelos Cookies

The Webelos made cookies at our house yesterday.

They were for pack meeting.

Needless to say, I'll be making cookies today! (At least they're my favorite kind.)

The crazy thing is that these boys had never baked cookies before. They are 10 years old. I can't cook anything without a helper and I love it! I think the great thing about it is that my kids love to be our "sous chefs" and they are learning while they do. They ask lots of questions and we teach them along the way. So many people are afraid to cook and don't know what to do. I never want my kids to be afraid, so they are working with us and learning how to do things. Maybe they'll only eat Ramen by choice...

I hope they are always helpful like this. Do any of you have experience with this? If you have expected and allowed your kids to help around the house, are they still willing (and wanting) to help when they are older?

Oh, that is too funny! (I didn't recognize them as cookies at first.) I can't imagine that they'd never even helped their mother bake before. How odd!

Those are some hilarious cookies. I don't let my kids in the kitchen much since they always seem to go for my knives when I am not looking. I have them help me with other household chores though. They love doing the laundry.

Mmm...yummy! My kids help out all the time and I love it. We have a dish duty chart that we rotate and one of the jobs is food prep. I find it helps them eat things that they would usually be picky about eating like veggies but if we make a big deal about how great they cut the veggies then dig right in. :)

Why are you making more cookies? They look delicious :)!

I grew up helping around the house, and I'm so grateful for it! I learned so many things, and even enjoy them - cooking, sewing, cleaning, handyman skills - I'm eternally indebted to my parents for letting me help!

cute cookies ;) and yes, i think having them help in the kitchen and around the house when they are little helps them feel more involved and more apt to do it when they older. my oldest loves to cook...he makes the best pancakes and they are requested quite often by the little ones! :)
